Dr Ryan Edwards is the Deputy Director of the Development Policy Centre and a Fellow in the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics. His research lies at the intersection of development economics, labour economics, international trade, and the environment. He leads the Economic Development stream of the Pacific Research Program and the Development Policy Centre’s labour mobility research with the World Bank, and is a Principal Investigator of the Small Firm Diaries.
Ryan returned to the ANU in June 2019 from academic appointments at Dartmouth College and Stanford, and worked in the Australian Government—mostly on federal budgets, school funding reforms, social investment, and impact evaluation policy—international development, finance, and various other odd jobs before that.
Ryan currently convenes Devpol’s labour mobility seminars, the ACDE Seminars, and the Pacific Update, and edits Asia and the Pacific Policy Studies (AE), the Centre’s Discussion Papers, and the Blog your Development PhD Research series.
