Dr Ryan Edwards is an applied economist and the Deputy Director at the Development Policy Centre. He is also a Fellow in the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics at the Crawford School. His research lies at the intersection of development economics, labour economics, international trade, and the environment.
Ryan is an Associate Editor of Asia and the Pacific Policy Studies and the editor of the Development Policy Centre’s discussion paper series. Ryan also convenes DevPolicy’s labour mobility webinars and the Economics PhD Seminars at the Crawford School. He has collected tips for students on his personal website.
Ryan returned to the ANU in June 2019 from academic appointments in the Department of Economics at Dartmouth College, where he taught courses in statistics and development economics, and at Stanford University, where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre on Food Security and the Environment and the Department of Earth System Science. Ryan worked in the Australian Government—mostly on federal budgets, school funding reforms, social investment, and impact evaluation policy—international development, finance, and various other odd jobs before that.
Ryan is working on the implications and responses to COVID-19 under the Devpol-DPA-Lowy Pacific Research Program and the ANU-World Bank labour mobility research partnerships. He is also engaged in the ANU-CSIRO-ACIAR project “Assessment of Food System Security, Resilience and Emerging Risks in the Indo-Pacific in the context of COVID-19”.
