Research interests

(Hoang) Long Chu is an applied economic modeller and data analyst within the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics. His interest is to create applied models to support sustainable decision-making, management of water and fisher resources, biosecurity and disease controls, as well as structural reforms. Long Chu is the recipient of a number of awards and honours, including the prestigious Eureka Prize in Australian science.

Associate Professor Long Chu has expertise and research interests in the following areas:

  • Balancing economic, social, and environmental objectives
  • Economics of forest management, green agriculture, low-carbon economy

  • Economic restructuring policies

Covid-19 Expertise

Long Chu has participated in a research project to estimate the effectiveness of restriction measures in response to Covid-19 in Australia. He is also leading a research team who assess the impacts of Vietnam’s economic reforms in response to emerging challenges, including pandemic and climate change.
