Understanding the labor market assimilation of immigrants has been of utmost importance. We explore the role of heterogeneities in cultural institutions, migration networks and immigration policies in the labor market assimilation of Filipinos in Canada, Greece, Malaysia, Spain, and the US. We use the census data of the five countries from the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series International, wage data from ILOSTAT, and institutional data taken from various sources. We find that cultural similarity, migrant networks, and selective immigration policies aid assimilation. We look at differences in returns to human capital, and occupational and industrial mobility as channels of assimilation.
