In this seminar, Huong Tran will present her findings on the environmental effects of trade in environmental goods in APEC economies. Environmental goods include renewable energy technologies, environmental monitoring equipment, and others. Huong’s analysis uses an econometric technique for addressing endogeneity issues, and disaggregates environmental goods trade into various categories. The results suggest a positive impact of environmental goods trade on local environmental performance. Exports of environmental goods have beneficial impacts on an environmental health measure, although their estimated impact on an ecosystem vitality measure is not as encouraging. The policy implications of the findings will be discussed.
