Crawford School nurtures Indonesian partnerships

11 June 2024

A major delegation from across the Crawford School of Public Policy visited Indonesia in May. It focused on revitalising existing partnerships, exploring opportunities for new collaborations, and celebrating our incredible and broad alumni network.

Led by our Director, Professor Janine O’Flynn, we engaged in fruitful discussions with our longstanding partners, Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), exploring avenues for deepening our collaborations. Additionally, we seized the opportunity to connect with potential university partners, laying the groundwork for promising new ventures.

Meetings with key stakeholders including Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP), managers of the Indonesian education endowment fund, ASEAN, the Australian Embassy, Kementerian Keuangan (Ministry of Finance of Republic of Indonesia), and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) were instrumental in broadening our horizons and fostering meaningful dialogue.

We also had the opportunity to reconnect with our esteemed colleagues from the Ministry of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform (Kementerian Pendayagunaan Aparatur Negara dan Reformasi Birokrasi), further solidifying the productive exchanges that began during the Minister’s delegation to Crawford in 2023.

Additionally, our academics delivered captivating seminars and lectures at UGM and CSIS, enriching academic discourse and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Professor O’Flynn reflects, “I was reminded of the deep affection and trust people have for Crawford and the ANU. This was evident everywhere we went in Indonesia, and there was genuine excitement about our visit. ANU alumni were present everywhere, and our former students connected with us at every stop.”

Amidst our busy schedule, there was a tangible sense of excitement and anticipation for the numerous opportunities on the horizon. The groundwork for these endeavours has been set, and our team is now moving forward with unwavering determination.

It’s not a goodbye, but see you soon, Indonesia!
