The Crawford School heads to PNG: Celebrating alumni & shaping the future at the PNG Update
Next week, the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy will be in Port Moresby to celebrate its ongoing engagement with Papua New Guinea. This visit highlights the strong ties between the ANU Crawford School and Papua New Guinea, emphasizing a shared commitment to education, policy development, and community building.
Two significant events will take place during the visit, promising insightful discussions and meaningful connections. We invite everyone currently in Papua New Guinea to attend, and encourage those interested in the PNG Update to watch it online.
1. The 2024 PNG Update
The first major event is the 2024 PNG Update, which will be held at the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on 21-22 August 2024. The theme for this year is “Securing a Stable Environment for Growth and Development”, reflecting the focus on creating sustainable pathways for economic and social progress in Papua New Guinea.

The conference is free for all presenters and attendees, and no prior registration is required. Attendees can simply visit the welcome desk outside the New Lecture Theatre at the Waigani Campus upon arrival.
The event will be live streamed through The University of Papua New Guinea’s Facebook account.
2. ANU Crawford School Alumni Dialogue
The ANU Crawford School Alumni Dialogue will be held in Port Moresby on Wednesday, 21 August, at 6:00 pm. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our alumni and recognise the positive impact they are making in the world.
The evening will begin with opening remarks by Dr. Joanne Loundes, Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea. Following this, a lively conversation will take place between Mr. Andrew F. Oaeke, Secretary to the Papua New Guinea Department of Treasury, and Professor Paul Burke, Deputy Director of the ANU Crawford School. This networking event promises to be a valuable occasion for our alumni to reconnect, share experiences, and foster new collaborations, all while enjoying refreshments.
We look forward to welcoming you all to both our events in Papua New Guinea!
