China has increased its energy imports to sustain rapid economic growth. Among other countries, Australia and Indonesia are of particular interest, as they are major exporters of coal and gas, whose industrial and institutional development gives them flexibility to adopt a variety of policy responses to avoid the resource curse suffered by other countries. This paper explores the impact of China-induced resource boom on diversification of industries and trade partners, and their counter-action to manage the impacts.
