Around 28 per cent of rural households in Cambodia face food insecurity. In this paper, I examine the links between irrigation in rice farming, productivity, and household food insecurity, using data from a survey conducted in 2014 in 32 rural villages in Cambodia. The results show that rice farms with reservoir/canal irrigation are more productive. Irrigation is also associated with lower household food insecurity. Investing in irrigation infrastructure is an option for reducing Cambodia’s challenge of rural food insecurity.
