This paper investigates the long-term impact of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami on educational and health outcomes in Banda Aceh city, Indonesia. We employ a spatial regression discontinuity design mainly using our own household survey data. Results reveal that respondents inhibiting in the heavily devastated area tend to have fewer years of schooling, are less likely to continue to higher education, and are on average shorter. Subgroup analysis suggests a strong gender bias against females in schooling. Respondents in the older group in the treated area have lower educational outcomes, higher prevalence of asthma, and are more likely to be underweight.
